Known mayors
A complete list of Dover's mayors since 1842 isn't published in one place. Records we could confirm include U.H. Scheu (around 1920), L.W. Helmkamp (elected 1933), Harry W. Stucky (1951–1955), and Clifford C. Froelich (elected 1955).
Recent years
Richard Homrighausen served as mayor through the late 2010s. In May 2022 he was suspended after being indicted, and he was later convicted and barred from public office.
Shane Gunnoe — a Ward 2 council member from 2008 to 2014 and council president from 2014 to 2022 — became interim mayor in 2022, was named mayor in February 2023, and won a full term in November 2023, defeating Colby Byrom 2,783 to 1,674.
