Founders and builders
Christian Deardorff (1781–1851) co-founded Dover, served as a judge, and was a state representative. Jeremiah E. Reeves (1845–1920) built the iron and steel businesses that defined the town for a century.

Born in Dover in 1885, Warther carved dozens of working steam-engine models between 1905 and 1971. His famous pliers tree — 511 working pliers carved from one piece of wood — was shown at the 1933 Chicago World's Fair.
